The Puget Sound Tomahawks began in the 2000-2001 season at the Puget Sound Hockey Center, located in Tacoma, WA. At their inception the team was known as the Puget Sound Kings, under the coaching of Luc Boileau the Puget Sound Kings were a very competitive team in what was also the first year of the Nor-Pac Junior B league. Coach Boileau would return to coach the Kings through the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons. In the 2002-2003 season of the Kings Kim McConnell joined the team as the assistant coach.

The 2003-2004 season saw a change in many aspects of the team. Kim McConnell took over the reigns of the team as the head coach and general manager. Coach McConnell and Owner Donna Kaufman decided that in the best interest of the team to remain competitive in a rapidly expanding Nor-Pac league the best course of action was to move the team to an arena that would provide more seating for fans and all around more game friendly environment. However the team would continue to practice at the Puget Sound Hockey Center, AKA Tacoma Hockey Club. With this change in venue the decision was also made to change the name of the team to the Puget Sound Tomahawks. Coach McConnell would continue to coach the Tomahawks through the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons. Coach McConnell took the team to the playoffs each of his three years as head coach but decided after the 2005-2006 season it was time to step down and spend more time with his family.

In the 2006-2007 season Josh Reis became the head coach of the Tomahawks with Morris Molakof assuming the position of general manager. They would continue to progress the Tomahawks in the Nor-Pac.

The 2007-2008 would see Chadd Olsen take over the Tomahawks as head coach. Coach Olsen would bring a new and young group of players on to the Tomahawks to compete in a Nor-Pac league that has grown to include 13 teams located in 5 states. Coach Olsen would also implement a stringent on and off ice training program to help his team compete in the Nor-Pac league, which in the 2007-2008 season would gain Tier III Junior A status by USA Hockey. Coach Olsen believes that every player that plays for him on the Tomahawks should have the ambition to play at a higher level and works to promote all of his players to the next level of play.

Coach Olsen will be returning to coach the Tomahawks once again in the 2008-2009 season. In Coach Olsen's efforts to place a strong and competitive team on the ice for the 2008-2009 season he has spent the summer of 2008 traveling around the country working with and recruiting prospective players to build the strongest team possible.
